ANTONY  GORMLEY

HUMAN

April 26 – September 27, 2015

The great exhibition of the English artist on the redefinition of the human figure, finds its “natural” place in Florence, a city in which, between the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, artists such as Donatello, Michelangelo, Bandinelli and Cellini dedicated themselves to the study of representation of the “ideal” man and the definition of the monument in relation to architecture and public space. Human renews and confirms the city’s determination to promote contemporary culture, seeking a crucial interaction between Renaissance Florence and the current city in a close dialogue between sculpture and a new conception of the anthropic environment. Once Extraordinary Events took care of every logistical and realization aspect of Antony Gormley’s exhibition project. Human, set up in the late 16th century Medici fortress, Forte Belvedere, brings together more than one hundred iron works by Gormley, in the internal rooms of the building, on the ramparts, on the stairways and the terraces, occupying every side of the fortress with its extraordinary views over the city and the surrounding hills.

The exhibition, promoted by the Municipality of Florence, curated by Sergio Risaliti and Arabella Natalini, was organized by Associazione Mus.e with the support of Galleria Continua di San Gimignano and White Cube.
