Coinciding with the 60th Venice Biennale, Austrian artist Erwin Wurm transforms the historic Sansovino Hall with a bold contemporary exhibition that bridges centuries of artistic expression. The exhibition is located in the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana in Piazza San Marco, Venice, accessible via the Museo Correr.
The Exhibition
This marks a significant return to Venice for Wurm, as two years ago he was the protagonist of the “Avatars” exhibition in the same Venetian venue. The artist now returns to the prestigious Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana with a solo exhibition titled “DEEP.” For this occasion, Wurm presents a selection of sculptural works placed in emotional dialogue with the paintings of Tiziano, Tintoretto, Veronese, and other Venetian Renaissance masters that adorn the hall.
The Works
This carefully curated dialogue between contemporary and Renaissance art features 13 of Erwin Wurm’s sculptures, with seven larger pieces placed in the monumental hall, while six smaller glass works are displayed in the vestibule leading to the grand hall.
The Vision
The exhibition is organized by the Association for Art in Public and supported by Berengo Studio. It is part of the “At Home Abroad” exhibition project, which consists of a series of solo shows by important contemporary artists in the Sansovino Hall of the Venetian library. These include Bernar Venet and Jiri Georg Dokoupil, who, in line with the theme of the 60th Art Biennale, “Foreigners Everywhere,” have been artistically exploring themes of foreignness and estrangement since last June. The artistic project was initiated and realized by the exhibition’s organizer, Dirk Geuer, in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture.
Once Extraordinary Events provided comprehensive cultural event management, successfully coordinating the press conference, vernissage, installations, and institutional partnerships with the Biblioteca Marciana.
